Ba-Ba-Better

Liam had been feeling miserable, with a 104 degree fever; his first. We kept him hydrated, sparingly gave him some acetaminophen and encouraged lots of sleep. After many painful hours, with no playing or "ba-ba-ba"-ing, just moaning and crying, it was euphoria when we first heard his first "ba-ba-ba". That was Friday evening.

We've maybe failed to mention in the blog yet that over the past month or more he has been "talking" a great deal, with "ba-ba-ba" and it's variants being what he most often says, though all the vowels eventually get some attention and during this illness he did clearly moan "oh boy". Sometimes when he's cranky, he "ba", then "ba-ba" then "ba-ba-ba"'s himself out of it -- the intonation reflecting the change from cranky to playful.

On Sunday we went to the east bay shore for a short walk near the Berkeley Marina, where we discovered Adventure Playground. Liam is far too young for this place, and some might say it's an accident waiting to happen for kids of any age, but National Geographic listed it as a top-10 playground -- it's a one-of-a-kind! Upon first glance it looks like kids built their own playground out of a junkyard with lots of old wood. One kid was painting a wooden-jungle-gym with red paint. We've joked that we want to run a zip-line on our property so it was pretty cool to see that Adventure Playground has one on theirs (shown in one of the photos below). We'll come back here when Liam's older. We recommend it, but be sure to accompany your kid and have up-to-date tetanus shots! ;)

Later, we went to Berkeley's Thai Buddhist Temple (Wat Mongkolratanaram) for lunch.
